What About That Clean Bathroom?

Kohler Bathroom Sink

Have you ever had a dirty bathroom or gone into someone elses home with a dirty bathroom? Or when you’ve filled the gas tank of your car and gone into the service station’s filthy bathroom, what did you do? We’ve all experienced these things from time to time and it really is distressing, isn’t it?

Bathrooms have come a long way. Today they are considered luxurious and most people want bathrooms like hotels and that means glamorous! Everybody loves a good bath or shower and everybody loves those big fluffy towels. A great bathroom makes us feel great about ourselves! With all of that in mind in how we feel about bathrooms, it goes without saying that everybody loves a clean and gleaming bathroom. I hope the following information is of help to you in taking your bathroom to the next level.

In taking the best baths or showers, here are some of the products that should be in your bathroom.

Moisturizing soap/body wash A good soap or cream applied to the skin can counter dryness. Exposure to all kinds of weather from dry winters to blazing sun can relieve your skin of its natural oils so it is important that you have a good moisturizing soap or body wash when you take a bath.

Aromatherapy oils Lavender is one of the best aromatherapy oils to include in your bath. It is used for treating wounds, enhancing memory and aiding sleep by combating anxiety and insomnia. Some other popular scents include eucalyptus, rose, jasmine and bergamot. Aromatherapy oils are relaxing and they help us to relax.

Body buff This is used to slough off those dead skin cells. You will enjoy the feeling of a new, clean and smooth skin. When taking baths or showers, our bodies are soaked in water, which makes the exfoliating process so much easier.

Candles Whether you take your bath at the start of your day or the end of the day, it really sets the mood to light a few candles and then slip slowly into the warm, inviting water. The soft glow and fresh scent of your candle will help you to relax and unwind as no other.

Now that you know how to create a most relaxing atmosphere as you prepare for your bath or shower, here are tips on keeping your bathroom a place you enjoy. I personally enjoy cleaning my bathroom and will tell you why later on.

1. You’ll need bathroom-cleansers. You can get one that is a spray all purpose cleaner that isn’t abrasive for bathrooms tubs and tiles. You’ll need a mirror cleaner if you want to avoid streaks. I always get a separate toilet bowl cleaner. Plus cleaning items such as sponges, mops or the items that you like to use.

2. Spray the shower and tub with the tub and tile cleaner and wipe sparkling clean.

3. Pour cleaner into the toilet bowl. While that is working and smelling good, I clean the outside of the toilet with an anti-bacterial cleaner. If you clean your toilet once a week, it will never become a big job. However, you know how much use your toilet gets; if it requires more than once a week, clean it.

4. Clean mirrors, chrome, bathroom scale, and light fixtures with glass cleaner. Never interchange cleaners. There’s a big difference with cleansers and mirror cleaners. So take note and be careful.

5. Vacuum everything! This will remove dust and hair that is so hard to get up when surfaces are wet.

6. Empty and clean the wastepaper basket.

7. Clean the sink, countertop and whatever else needs cleaning in your bathroom.

8. Scrub the floor with your cleanser. There are many types of mops, sponges, etc. to use. Choose the types that you enjoy using for the job.

With these tips, you are on your way to the best bath experience. Because taking a bath is more than just taking a bath!

I mentioned earlier that I would share my additional ideas of keeping a bathroom looking great. After a shower or bath, I immediately clean it. It is so quick to clean when it never gets dirty in the first place. The bonus is that when my husband goes to use the shower, it always looks terrific and he loves it and so do I! I clean the sink and counter each day so it always looks gorgeous and it’s done in seconds because it never gets dirty. A simple and quick tip is each time you finish using the taps, take your towel and give it a quick swipe and your counter too. They will always look shiny and clean with little effort. Get the idea? It is far easier to keep things clean, neat and tidy than it is to make a mess. And it lifts your spirits and everyone else that uses the bathroom with you. I even get dressed and put on my make-up and my husband shaves in a gorgeous bathroom all of the time – how would that make you feel? Pretty special!

I had guests over using the main bathroom and I was told, they love coming to our home because they feel like they’re in a hotel. The bathroom is immaculate and I keep it clean each day while my guests are here and I also change the towels. I do it when they’re not looking and they love it. One guest forgot their toothbrush and asked me for one, fully expecting me not to have it, but I went to our bathroom and came back with a great looking new toothbrush in a wrapper and they were shocked – and they loved it!

If you have children, teach them to clean up after themselves. Teach them your new-found tips and tricks so they learn to love clean, neat and tidy things. Think how their husbands or wives will love them for it in the future. They will all thank you. Don’t faint, but when I’m a guest in someone elses house, I clean the bathroom before I leave. I make sure they don’t see me doing it, but I’ll bet you they love it.

For those who enjoy a clean home, may I suggest you take the work out of cleaning and start having fun with it because then it becomes a pleasure and the rewards are endless! Remember, it’s easier to be clean than messy and it is always easier to find minutes than hours. Put it to the test and you will see.

Great Remodeling Investments–Bathrooms are Best!

Kohler Kitchen Sink

Considering a remodel but are concerned that the investment might outweigh the value added to your home? If you are considering a bathroom remodel, it could be a great investment.

I have always told my clients considering putting their homes on the market, that kitchens and bathrooms sell homes. A recent report from National Association of Realtors (NAR) agrees. In late December, the NAR released the 2005 Cost VS Value Report for home remodels. This study looked at cost data, resale value and percentage recouped for 18 different projects in 58 housing markets across the United States. With mid-range bath remodel, a homeowner can expect to recoup expenses and maybe make a little with an average 102.2 percent return of investment. This is up from 87.5 percent in a similar study in 2002.

Before a considering a bathroom remodel, you need to understand “Why” you are undertaking this project. Do you need a new bathroom because the old layout is not functional? Not enough bathrooms in your home? Or is it because you plan to move and the maroon ceramic tile and pink fixtures from the 1950′s are too ugly to get the best price for the home?

To design the perfect bathroom for your home a lifestyle inventory will need to be taken. This is a process where you ask yourself questions to determine the needs and expectations specific to your family for your family. Here some questions to consider:

Who and how the bath will be used? One sink or two? Shower and tub combination or just a shower? Storage, electrical outlets and counter space needs. Private areas or completely open? Will there be handicap accessibility needs now or in the future?

If you are looking for resale value, trends are important in bathrooms. Here are some of today’s hot bathroom trends:

Pedestal sinks

White Fixtures

Extra-Large Showers with multiple faucets

Heated, ceramic flooring.

Glass Block and decorative moldings

Furniture-look to cabinetry

Solid surface countertops (Corian)

Another important consideration is handicap accessibility needs whether now or in the future. Options today go way beyond a raised toilet and grab bars in the shower. Larger doorways, easy access lighting, easy entry tubs, roll in showers, sinks that raise and lower with the touch of a button are just some of the new options available to persons with special needs. If you are planning to stay in your home for a significant length of time, it might pay to review some of the exciting new products available. In Minnesota, there is an excellent builder/remodeler, Dave Regel who specializes in totally accessible housing. He has model homes which feature unique products that make life easier and more enjoyable to persons with special needs.

If remodeling specifically to put your home on the market, take into consideration the quality and condition of the home. A good Realtor who knows your market can assist you here. If you are in an upscale neighborhood where homebuyers will expect high-end quality, don’t make discount-store decisions. Likewise, if your home is in an area of modest or lower value homes, skip the heated tile flooring and solid surface countertop. Understanding the market place you are in will help you to recoup the most from your investment.

Spending a little extra time in the planning stage can reduce the headaches and heartaches of a construction project that does not meet expectations. Taking your time will allow you to make the wise decisions that add value to your most important financial investment, your home.

Bathroom Vanities – Are They Worth The Money?

August 3, 2009 at 10:59 am · Filed under Articles

Kohler Bathroom Sink

If one takes it literally, you would think that bathroom vanities are just that, bathroom items that cater to man?s conceit, pride or self-adulation. Well, almost but not quite. It appeals not only to our need for aesthetic gratification, but more importantly to our functional needs.

So what is a bathroom vanity? It particularly refers to a bathroom cabinet that covers the water basin, pipes, and drain. It has drawers and shelves underneath that are used as storage spaces for items, usually those that need to be hidden from the guests.

In buying or redesigning a house, a great deal of time, effort and money are given to the living room, kitchen, bedrooms and other more prominent sections of the house. But such is not always the case for other unobtrusive but equally important rooms such as the bathroom, shower room or comfort room.

The bathroom is a very important comfort zone in the house, next to bedrooms. It offers a quite sanctuary for our personal needs. That is why getting the best design, tile materials, and amenities for your bathroom should also be a major consideration in house improvement activity.

One of the most important bathroom amenities is a bathroom vanity. A bathroom vanity is undoubtedly the main aesthetic feature of a bathroom in any house remodeling or decorating project. While it is the best place to keep private things out of the way and sight of the guests, it need not be bare-looking or simplistic. Given the best efforts in design, style, or finish, it becomes an attractive centerpiece for your bathroom.

There is a wide variety of choices of vanity designs, but you can narrow down your options to either a custom vanity or a prefabricated one. If you are a little tight on the budget, you can opt for pre-fabricated vanities that can suit your taste as well. But if you want more room for creativity and would not mind spending a fortune for it, then do not hesitate to scour the local directory to search for custom bathroom vanity maker.

Custom Wood Vanities

Custom wood vanities are the more popular choices in bathroom vanities, and the cabinet is its? most notable feature. If the design calls for a laid-back or conventional look you can have a framed or American-style cabinet. A framed cabinet is framed around the front edges of the cabinet body. This type allows the attachment of hinges to the frame and the door, thereby providing a durable base for attaching hinges. On the other hand, if you want to have a more contemporary touch to your bathroom vanity, go for a frameless or European style cabinet. As the name implies, a frameless cabinet has no frame on the surrounding face of the cabinet?s body. This type has its hinges attached to the door and side panel of the cabinet body.

A basic rule of thumb in choosing a design for a custom-made wood cabinet is that it must have to blend effortlessly with the bathroom?s design. But do not just be contented with what you see, make sure that you have a functional cabinet with doors, drawers, hinges, or sliders put firmly in place.

For a wood vanity, your decision is not only limited to what is appropriate for the cabinet itself, but to a large extent to the choice of sink countertop, mirror, and other fixtures or accessories that have to be incorporated. Other factors that are as important are the storage space, drawers, size, and other particular details. To get you started, consider the following suggestions:

Make sure that you allot the appropriate storage space for your cabinet. You must have an idea beforehand what types of items are to be placed in which cabinet drawer. Make sure also that the accessories such as knobs, hanger, faucet matches the style of your cabinet.

Your choices become even more varied as you get to the countertops. But again, you can narrow down to wood, ceramic tiles, laminates, and other composite materials, or solid surface materials such as concrete, stainless steel, or stone.

Ceramic tile is the most commonly used countertop surface. It is durable and you can select from a wide variety of sizes, colors and grain. Wood countertops would make a lovely country-style countertop, but can stain easily and requires higher maintenance. The most durable and most resistant to heat, concrete is a wise choice, but there is also the risk of staining and cracking.

Make sure that you use only durable drawer slides. Avoid having vanity cabinets that have center-mounted slides or wobbly plastic slides because these types could not stand up to weight and heavy use for a long time. Get only the best ball-bearing assembly that you can afford.

Because it is a very versatile material, wood is the most common material used for wood vanities. Choosing the perfect wood variety for your vanity would be largely dictated by your personal taste, the over-all design of your bathroom, and the accompanying fixtures and accessories. But it is important to check first on the wood?s availability and your budget because wood vanities fetch way higher than vanities made of other materials.

Wood Types

Wood vanities are made from a variety of wood types, the same materials than can be used for other household fixtures made of wood. They may also be either wood veneer of laminated. Different wood species fetch different prices, depending on its availability and overall appearance. There are so many materials to choose from: maple, oak, cherry, hickory, yellow birch, or pine. While oak is the all-time favorite for an earthy and conventional looking wood vanity, the use of maple and cherry wood materials have increased.

Exotic wood fetch higher prices as these are the more rare varieties. Among those belonging to this category are mahogany, ebony, and walnut. Mahogany is mostly come from tropical rainforests. Its? reddish brown color and regular grain qualities make it a perfect alternative to old oak wood. Walnut colors range from dark brown to a purplish shade of black. Ebony wood generally refers to very dark wood or black wood.

Every home decoration or designing project is an investment. As such, it needs to be carefully planned and executed. To protect you investment, work with professionals in the industry. You do not have to compromise comfort, style and taste for money.

Why You Should Care about Bathroom Planning

August 2, 2009 at 2:59 pm · Filed under Articles

Kohler Kitchen Sink

Why is bathroom planning and design so popular today? It can be expensive and time-consuming to redesign and redecorate your bathroom. However, the benefits often outweigh the disadvantages. Here is why you should consider bathroom planning and design in your own home.

Bathroom Planning Helps You Create a Personal Sanctuary

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house. It can be a source of relaxation and enjoyment, an oasis of peacefulness in your own home. By learning about how to plan your dream bathroom, you can transform a regular room into a place that helps you forget about your daily cares, and wash away your troubles.

Bathroom Planning Increases Your Home Value

Good bathroom planning and design can also significantly raise the value of your home. A luxurious home spa in your bathroom will make your house stand out from all of the others. Especially in neighborhoods where most of the houses are cast from a similar design, this can be a real bonus to helping you get the price you want when you sell.

Bathroom Planning Can Save You Money

Many standard bathrooms are anything but energy efficient. You lose money through poorly sealed windows, leaky sinks, and expensive central heating. When you embark on your bathroom planning project, you can change that, installing warming elements that cost just cents on the dollar, while making you feel more luxurious.

Bathroom Planning Has Health Benefits

Redesigning your bathroom can have a number of health benefits. For example, replacing that slippery tile with textured ceramic could avoid dangerous accidents, or adding a steam shower could soothe away arthritis pains or help you sleep more soundly. Embarking on a bathroom planning mission can make your home safer and can ease health problems.

As you can see, there are some very good reasons why bathroom planning is so popular today. Whether your goal is to add a touch of luxury to your home or to save money in the future, a bathroom redesign can help you achieve your dream room.

Bathroom Remodeling Made Easy

August 1, 2009 at 4:59 pm · Filed under Articles

Kohler Sinks

(ARA) These days, you cant turn on the TV without viewing a new episode of home improvement shows like Trading Spaces or Hometime. A report issued this year by Harvards Joint Center for Housing Studies calls home improvement the new great national pastime. In 2001, Americans spent an estimated $214 billion on home improvements, maintenance and repairs. All indicators point to this remodeling-mania continuing for sometime.

Take a look around your own home. Is what youve been referring to as your time-honored home dcor really just old fashioned? If so, maybe its time for you to join the remodeling parade. The good news is: there are lots of easy, low cost ways to give your homes look a nice pick-me-up.

The bathroom is one of the most popular targets for home improvement. While any project involving plumbing tends to intimidate the average homeowner, there is a lot of new product technology designed with the do-it-yourselfer in mind.

One of the easiest and most cost efficient ways to spruce up a bathroom is to replace the faucets. Improvements like this have a huge impact on the functional and aesthetic value of the space. You can create an entirely new theme for your bathroom — such as contemporary, old world, or European — based on the design of your faucet, says Angie Coffman, director, Delta product marketing for Delta Faucet Company.

Before purchasing a new faucet, its a good idea to do some preliminary research. You may also want to consider a budget before beginning your search, as prices can vary widely. You will find that there are many different styles and designs in bathroom faucets. Consider ahead of time whether you want a single-handle or a double-handle faucet. Notice how the handles feel in the palm of your hand. Do you want something that is delicate or more heavy-duty? Explore different spout designs and finishes as well. Decide whether or not you want an escutcheon, the decorative plate beneath a faucet. An escutcheon will also cover extra holes that might be drilled in the sink.

Look for a faucet that installs easily — you may notice language like quick connect or no adjust, indicating that minimal tools are required. Pay close attention to the existing hole configuration on your sink. How many are there and how far apart are they? Do you need a single-hole, 4-inch center-set, or a wall-mounted faucet? Your single-handle faucet may have three holes underneath, but you dont necessarily have to replace it with another single-handle. Theres a design, called a mini-widespread, which provides flexibility for customers who have a single-handle faucet, but are looking to switch to a double handle, widespread look. The Victorian Mini-widespread from Delta is an example of a faucet that offers intricate, old-world styling in a smaller sink setting.

Make a Lasting Improvement

Look for a design that wont soon be outdated and one that will complement the rest of your bathroom, one that will stand out without sticking out, according to Coffman. Keep in mind that you will probably be using this new faucet for years, so choose something that is durable, versatile, and a brand that is considered reliable.

Installing high quality products in a bathroom will result in a high return on your home remodeling investment. That is why it is important to choose a faucet that offers long-lasting, worry-free performance. You want to look for things like solid brass construction and a company that offers a lifetime limited warranty, along with customer support, in case you have questions while installing the faucet yourself.

Now that you are ready to give your bathroom the facelift it has been waiting for, have a few tools handy for the installation. A pair of adjustable pliers, along with an Allen wrench and basin wrench, will probably be necessary. Also pick up some silicone or caulk, and Teflon tape. Always double check the instructions on your faucet for any other tools or supplies needed.

A room designed for flushing crap and washing away city?s grime must have a mirror to convince you that the person you look at after the scrubbing and brushing is all set for the slog and toil again. From using the dental floss and brushing the teeth to scrubbing, shaving and eyebrow pricking bathroom mirrors are a must have. Ranging from simple shower glass mirror to the clear fogless mirrors they are used for both vanity and decorative purpose in the private and emotional space such as bathroom. With variety of shapes, size, designs and frames they are a basic utility element of custom bathroom accessories for both residential and commercial use.

The mirrors come with special attachments for holding mugs, brushes soap-case etc. framed or unframed to suit your needs. The place where best of ideas take hold and the mime artist in you takes over the utilitarian space as the stage needs to be embellished with a mirror. The mirror certainly has given bathrooms a new visual status.

We go into the bathroom for specific reasons, usually to leave something behind. But we often leave with something unexpected. Bathroom mirror is an extra ordinary reflector for even a forgotten underdog who can treat himself like a king as there is nobody?s except him to judge and critically analyze. An antique mirror, iron framed, standalone or hung on a wall, bathroom mirrors have come a long distance from the Greeks and Romans who used a disk of metal with a highly polished face to admire themselves. Aluminum being resistant to oxidation and offering easy maintenance has become the only name in the industry. Checking your physical appearance and the dark circles to the blemishes and lines on the face, bathroom mirrors are indisputably the best to bring you face to face with yourself.

External appearances are essential parts of making a person feel good. This is regardless of whether one chooses to accept or condone society’s views on appearance. This rule also applies to the appearance of one’s own bathroom. In this it is easy to see why bathroom vanity mirrors would be an important part in the appearance of a bathroom.

It is a little known fact that the bathroom is the best place for privacy and often people wish to explore the options that bathroom vanity mirrors provide. Regardless of what decor the person aims to have, it is important to note that options are always available to increase the “perfect” finish look of bathrooms by choosing attractive vanity mirrors. Variations such on glass medicine cabinets help you to showcase the bathroom vanity mirrors, thus enhancing their look.

Normally the key element when finding a bathroom mirror is function. In order for a satisfactory purchase to be made, you will need to ensure that you know what key elements you wish to explore in your bathroom. Remember that not all bathroom medicine cabinets are unsightly just because they have a function. Whatever your desired effect and needs, it all can be met with a little focus. Your bathroom vanity mirrors can enhance the look of your bathroom not only by their flawless look but also by the practical way that they illuminate the light thus making your bathroom feel more spacious and welcoming.

Class classification is no longer a valid reason for why mirrors of elegance and beauty should not be easily acquired by the hard working common man. Money is not a determining factor either. Bathroom vanity mirrors are now cost effective while still maintaining the high standards in terms of look and bathroom compatibility. With such factors playing in favor of bathroom vanity mirrors, it is clear why so many people are opting to take more steps into acquiring their dream bathroom so that they can showcase it with pride.

The main theme that is to be taken into consideration is that you need to stay focused on your main goal decor. Most people associate elegance with antique mirrors, which are also normally classified as traditional mirrors. If this is the look you wish to acquire then be willing to put in some effort towards finding that mirror that will make you feel proud of your bathroom. Antique mirrors normally give a softer feel to the bathroom while maintaining a certain aura of mystery. They also seem to have the power to capture the untimely sense of unobtainable beauty and social class ranking. Due to this it is clear to understand why so many bathrooms can easily be converted to a place of tranquil beauty.
